Another Global Recognition for Serbian Rakija
Serbia’s national drink rakija took center stage during a prominent masterclass at the Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
Serbian rakija is receiving well-deserved international recognition, highlighted by its showcase at one of the world’s most prestigious spirits competitions—Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, which took place in China, from September 3 to 5, 2024.
During this educational event, leading international experts were introduced to the rich heritage, exceptional quality, and distinct characteristics of Serbian rakija, positioning it as a worthy contender alongside the world’s most renowned spirits. Several distinguished figures in the world of spirits, including international judge Svetlin Mirčev, Milan Zarić and Dr. Ivan Urošević, the latter two being members of the Board of Directors of the Association of Brandy Producers of Serbia, guided the audience through this masterclass, and craftsmanship needed to make this quality drink.
Milan Zarić highlighted the significance of the event, not just for the global recognition of Serbian rakija, but for elevating its reputation and acceptance worldwide. He noted that such educational efforts and quality standardization are helping Serbian rakija as a national brand to secure its rightful place among iconic spirits like cognac, whiskey, and rum.
The Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is one of the world’s leading spirits competitions. This year, 154 international judges from 38 countries evaluated 2,754 samples from 62 nations.
Recognizing the importance of the competition, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Association of Brandy Producers of Serbia, organized the participation of Serbian rakija producers, providing them with the opportunity to step out, and stand out in the global market.
