Tonković Winery is a family winery, founded with the mission of preserving the culture of its region in the north of Bačka, cultivating vineyards on specific stony soil.
When the owner of the winery, Ignacije Tonković, retired, he bought 10ha of land and became interested in the autochthonous variety of kadarka, which was planted in the middle of the 19th century in the Pannonian Plain, only to disappear after the Second World War as it is very demanding to grow.
As a variety, Kadarka is able to give wines of different styles, structure and strength, but in each of them it always shows an exceptional fruity elegance.
In good vintages it is extremely extractive and accumulates a high percentage of sugar, which is always naturally balanced by excellent acids. These characteristics, complemented by the finesse of vineyards on sandy soil, give the opportunity to produce red and rosé, dessert, and even sparkling white wines of a specific style – Blanc de Noir, from Kadarka, and we are specific in that respect because we have a portfolio of 6 wines from one variety.
The wines were named after the compositions of Franz Liszt, who was a fan of kadarka.
