From the day the winery was established (in 2000) and through 2010, the main winemaker was the father, Alon Zadok, who practiced agriculture and management of agricultural villages for most of his life. Alon has 40 years of experience and has gained a great deal of knowledge and skills in agriculture and in the agricultural field-growing business, theoretical skills but mostly practical experience. The grapevines that grow with conditions such as sand, loess soil, water and fertilizer control grow fast and are one of the first to bear fruit in Israel. The winery is committed to eco-friendly practices. The grapes are grown without the need for spraying pesticides, thanks to the remote location of the vineyards, which are isolated from pests that harm the vines. The vines are irrigated with dripping water, and the pruned branches and leaves are returned to the soil, preserving the environment and naturally enriching the soil. Naturally, the desert terroir influences the taste and aroma of the wine. The temperature differences between day and night in the desert, the growth of vines in sandy and loess soils, and early morning irrigation all encourage the vines to thrive and give the wines their unique character. Ramat Negev Winery produces red and white grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, and more. All wines produced by the winery are kosher under rabbinical supervision. They were the first to plant vineyards for wine production in the Negev. The first planting was in 1997, and the first wine from the developing winery was produced in 2000. Today, after years of experience and self-study in grape cultivation and winemaking, they operate as a winery that produces wines solely from grapes grown in Ramat Hanegev and the Negev Mountains. The small winery, which started as a hobby and was called Kadesh Barnea Winery, changed its name to Ramat Negev Winery. All the family members work in the winery. The eldest son, Yogev, who studied oenology in Florence, Italy for four years, is now the winemaker, and the younger son, Gilad, together with his wife Michal, manages marketing and distribution.
