Librazhd Winery, established in 1960, has been a significant player in Albania’s wine industry. With the capability to process 1,000 tons of grapes per season, it originally utilized technology from the former Soviet Union. The winery sourced its grapes primarily from Librazhdi and partly from Elbasan. Prior to the 1990s, the Librazhdi region had around 390 hectares of vineyards, including 203 hectares dedicated to varieties like SHESH I BARDHË, SHESH I ZI, RIESLING, CABERNET SAUVIGNON, and TOKAI. These varieties formed the core of the winery’s products. Librazhd Winery produced alcohol, grape brandy, as well as red and white wines. Among its popular offerings was CABERNET wine, which was first exported to England between 1962 and 1964. Subsequently, approximately 3,000 hectoliters of RIESLING wine were exported to Poland, Hungary, Serbia and Romania, boosting the international reputation of Albanian wines. In 1992, the winery was privatized and renamed sh.p.k Vera Librazhd, a name it retains to this day. It has since evolved into a modern and competitive enterprise in the wine market. With its rich history and long-standing tradition of producing quality wines, Librazhd Winery remains a symbol of excellence and innovation in the industry. Today the Librazhd Winery is one of the largest and oldest wineries in Albania.
