Vinarium is a young winery established in 2009, based on the love of the Bikić and Šljivančanin families for vineyards and wine production. Vinarium is located in the small Srem village of Banoštor, one of the oldest Srem settlements where the tradition of grape growing is long-standing, dating back to the Roman Empire. At that time, Bononia Malata (today’s Banoštor), a Roman port on the Danube, occupied a very important place at the crossroads of the Danube routes of the entire Empire and was connected by road to Sirmium, the capital of the Empire and also a port on the Sava River.
In the 3rd century AD, Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius Probus greatly contributed to the flourishing of viticulture in this area and laid the foundations for its further development. In the 12th century, a Serbian nobleman from the Vukanović dynasty, Beloš, whose sister Jelena was married to the Hungarian king, received the titles of Hungarian palatine and ban. He founded a monastery on the site of today’s Banoštor, which thus received its current name – Ban’s Monastery, Hungarian Ban monostra, and in Serbian Banoštor.
Vinarium has set very clear goals and realistic plans that have strong and stable foundations, namely their vineyards. Currently, VINARIUM has about 30 planted hectares, and the plan is to expand the winery to a total of nearly 40 hectares of vineyards. With the help of the Secretariat for Economy and Tourism, as well as the agriculture of AP Vojvodina, a wine cellar has been built and equipped with a tasting room. With a production of around 40,000 liters of wine from various white and red varieties and a tasting room, VINARIUM is ready to host wine lovers and catering and tourism facilities with wine that is optimal in price and quality. Since August 2017, VINARIUM has been registered in the wine registry and is engaged in the production and sale of wine, and since April 2019, a branch for catering has been registered with the Serbian Business Register, whose activity includes the preparation and serving of food and drinks. As part of both activities, we offer a special tourism product:
Experience the Region – getting to know the wine village on the slopes of Fruška Gora and along the Danube.
Vinarium offers a comprehensive concept of wine tourism. Wine tours begin with a tour of the vineyards via a unique wagon trailer designed for riding and enjoying nature. In the vineyard, there is a winegrower’s house in front of which we organize thematic programs with guest sommeliers, providing visitors the opportunity to become more meaningfully acquainted with wine culture. The winery features a wine cellar and two wine tasting rooms, as well as a spacious yard designated for wine tourism. Within the tasting rooms, we organize wine programs of both educational and relaxing character.
Our goal is to create a project that would be supported at an annual or multi-year level, relating to marketing not only for the popularization of the VINARIUM winery but also for the entire destination of Banoštor – the wine village. Through a series of marketing activities, we would offer our guests numerous content with minimal participation that they should allocate for registration fees in order to attract more guests to Banoštor and thereby strengthen wine tourism. The Experience of the Region actually represents a wine tourism concept with numerous offerings that primarily aim to introduce the terroir, the ambient whole with its historical and cultural content, and then develop wine culture and popularize wine destinations.
