Prović winery is a small family run winery from Opuzen, far south of Croatia and it is considered a boutique winery. Our vineyards are located only 2 km away from the Neretva river estuary, on Bordeaux like alluvial soil that was taken away from the sea. The evidence to support that are seashell flakes, marine fossils and a some sand found in our soil, while the river deposits the dark fertile clay. Others from our cooperatives can be found in different parts of Croatia, including Pelješac and Korčula. Climate is Mediterranean with hot, dry summers and mild winters with rainfall occurring mainly in the wintertime. The climate is moderated by the sea in the west of the vineyards and the river surrounding them. The winery was established in 1997 and today sister Monika and brother Vjekoslav are the second generation that went into professional winemaking. We are proud to have revived one beautiful indigenous variety called Zlatarica that has received many awards, including bronze Decanter medal. Apart from that, in our portfolio, we have other indigenous varieties such as Trnjak and Plavac Mali, but we are also very famous for our mineral and vibrant yet rich and complex Chardonnay.
