Standing proudly above the Adriatic coast, the exclusive Korta Katarina resort is located in the picturesque seaside town of Orebić on the beautiful Pelješac peninsula, a region known for its culture, seaports and winemaking tradition dating back to the Roman Empire. Over the centuries, this relatively small town was home to numerous wealthy sea captains. American philanthropists Lee and Penny Anderson founded this beautiful complex consisting of a winery, vineyard and hotel. They visited Pelješac for the first time in 2001 when they participated in humanitarian missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They were delighted by Croatia’s cultural wealth, gastronomy and outstanding wines, and decided to invest their time, money and passion in creating a top-quality winery and hotel. They named the winery after their daughter Katharine. The word Korta in the name symbolizes the main Orebić veduta, korta are courtyards with large doors in front of the house where throughout history family gatherings were held in the houses of sea captains and is a kind of dedication to the great maritime tradition of Orebić, and the sequel Katarina is a clear dedication to the daughter Katharine. The winery currently produces around 70,000 bottles per year and has ten labels. Since the first harvest in 2006, Korta Katarina has been dedicated to local varieties — plavac mali and pošip.The winery has four wines with the first vintages: Pošip, Plavac Mali, Rosé, and Reuben’s Private Reserve. Later, the offer expanded to six more wines: Winemaker’s Selection, Zinfandel, The American Pošip, and two sparkling wines: Sabion and Cello and Suza Plavac prosecco. The unique story that grew out of emotion is rounded off by the Villa Katarina hotel, which delights with every detail, location by the sea, exclusive interior, and a view of the islands. Eight individually decorated apartments are elegantly arranged in a spacious stone villa. In 2020, Korta Katarina became a member of Relais & Chateaux, a prestigious global association of independent luxury hotels and restaurants with around 500 members worldwide.
